STRUGGLE FOR PEACE
Struggle for Peace
The Solidarity for Progress, the People for Peace and Reunification, the Committee for Supporting Prisoners of Conscience under the Family Movement for Realizing Democracy and other civic organizations in south Korea held the 100th rally for peace and disarmament in front of the building of the Defense Ministry on April 27. Condemning the authorities for whipping up the anti-north face-off, aggravating the situation and persisting in manufacturing the WMD, they pointed out that in order to check the regime’s moves they should dynamically conduct the struggle in unity to build up a peace mechanism on the Korean Peninsula and realize disarmament. They stressed that they would actively struggle to stop the anti-north confrontation moves, production of the WMD and the north-targeted war drills of the regime and positively make efforts to implement the inter-Korean joint declarations, thus raising the voice for peace and disarmament louder. The People for Peace and Reunification held a press conference on May 6 in front of the building of the Defense ministry to condemn the moves of the US and the south Korean authorities to tighten the aggression “alliance”. Speakers there noted that the US and south Korean authorities held the 25th conference for security policy initiative in Seoul that day and discussed such issues as enacting “defense guidelines”. The defense guidelines containing such issues as the supply of the US reinforcements in “contingency” of the Korean Peninsula, providing the “extended deterrence” to south Korea and guaranteeing the conditions for the stable presence of the US occupation troops in south Korea, are the concrete version of the alleged “joint vision” the US and south Korean authorities worked out in June last year, they disclosed. The US seeks to seize the military hegemony in the north East Asian region through the guidelines, and further consolidate the aggression “alliance” with south Korea, they denounce, branding it as a criminal act to stem the stream of national independence and peaceful reunification by all means. They bitterly condemned the recent conference for security policy initiative aimed at enacting the “military guidelines” and strongly demanded the US and south Korean authorities to opt for building a peace mechanism in the Korean Peninsula, the withdrawal of the US occupation troops and to repeal the aggression “alliance” for sure. |
