Due Punishment

The opposition parties of south Korea beat the Grand National Party in the by-election held on April 27.

The by-election aimed to fill the vacancies in the posts of lawmakers, provincial governors, district heads and county headmen was a hot contest as it may influence victory or defeat in the general elections next year.

The Democratic Party defeated the ruling party in the election of lawmaker for Bundang District No.2 of Songnam City, Gyonggi Province in which the GNP claimed never suffered a defeat.

The DP also beat the candidate from the ruling party in the election of the governor of south Korean Gangwon Province.

A candidate of the Democratic Labor Party who ran for the election to the National Assembly as the only candidate from the opposition camp won the election in Sunchon, South Jolla Province.

The GNP was defeated by the opposition parties in the election of district heads and county headmen in many other areas.

The group of the Grand National Party has enforced an unpopular and treacherous policy, talking about "the lost decade" over the past three years.

Their policy of dependence on outside forces and fascist dictatorial rule have wantonly infringed upon the dignity and sovereignty of the people and turned the society into awful tundra of democracy and human rights.

The treacherous ruling forces have worked with blood-shot eyes to escalate the confrontation and ignite a war, while totally denying the historic north-south declarations and bringing to naught all gains made in the June 15 era of reunification including the tour of Mt. Kumgang. The south Korean people took stock of all those crimes.

The GNP makes desperate efforts to put the situation under control, jabbering that it "accepts with a heavy heart the election results". But, this is not enough to win back the public attitude.

The election returns are a stern judgment meted out by the south Korean people to the present conservative ruling forces hell-bent on sycophancy towards the US, fascist dictatorship, anti-reunification acts and moves to escalate the confrontation with north Korea.

The treacherous ruling quarters have no future as they are forsaken by the people.
