Stern punishment to traitorous regime
A large-scale anti-government rally was held in Seoul on August 15 with the participation of more than 20 000 people from all walks of life.
More than 5 000 people took part in the August 15 rally held in Seoul under the co-sponsorship of the opposition parties including the Democratic Labor Party and civic organizations.
Speakers at the rally said the government has inflicted only misfortune upon the people and jeopardized the inter-Korean ties.
Noting that they cannot talk about genuine meaning of the country’s liberation without terminating the history of national division, they asserted that they should step down the present government in order to reunify the country.
A cultural function was held at the campus of Hongik University with attendance of more than 10 000 people.
A resolution was read out at the function.
The resolution noted that the south Korean people, who want national reconciliation, unity, independent reunification, peace and prosperity, should implement the inter-Korean declarations in unity.
It called upon the people to wage vigorous struggle for peace against war and frustrate Japan’s distortion of history, its ambition to grab the Dok islet, an inviolable territory of Korea, and become a military power. It also stressed that the people stubbornly struggle for the apology and compensation of Japan’s past crimes against the Korean people.
The participants chanted slogans including “Implement the June 15 Joint Declaration and the October 4 Declaration!”
Meanwhile, mass rallies against the pro-US conservative forces that deny democracy and reunification were held in different parts of Seoul.
The participants in their resolution stressed that the youth should take the lead in the struggle to step down the Lee regime.
Get rid of dark cloud of war
Civic organizations including the Solidarity for Peace and Reunification, the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country’s Reunification and the Korean National Council of Priests for Justice held the 119th anti-US solidarity rally on August 11 and sent a letter of protest to the US ambassador to south Korea, in demand of immediate halt of the joint military exercise “Ulji Freedom Guardian.”
Denouncing the war exercises are obviously maneuvers for a war of aggression against north Korea in the lights of scale, nature and contents, the letter called for the total repeal of the plan for war exercises.
Civic bodies and citizens held a rally in the vicinity of the US embassy in Seoul on August 15.
A letter of protest to the US administration was read out at the rally.
The letter urged the US to repeal the alliance with south Korea, withdraw its troops and remove nuclear umbrella from south Korea.
It also demanded the immediate suspension of sanctions against north Korea and the joint military drill “Ulji Freedom Guardian.”
Meanwhile, students belong to the south Korean Federation of University Students in the 21st Century held a rally in Seoul to criticize the south Korea-US joint military game and some 800 students held a rally against the war maneuver in front of the US military base in Yongsan, Seoul.
They noted that the present regime that drove the inter-Korean ties to the extreme with participation the Proliferation of Security Initiative should see squarely the fact that the only way to hasten independent reunification is to implement the June 15 Joint Declaration and the October 4 Declaration.
About 40 civic organizations including the Solidarity for Peace and Reunification, the Solidarity for Progress and the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions called a news conference near the wartime commanding post of the south Korea-US Combined Forces Command in Gyeonggi Province on August 17, demanding halt to the south Korea-US joint military exercise “Ulji Freedom Guardian”.
Meanwhile, news conferences and rallies demanding stop to the war exercises were held all at once in Incheon, Daegu, Busan and other cities of south Korea on the same day.
The war maniacs, who disturb peace and security of the Korean Peninsula, will only precipitate their death.
