ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF SONGUN POLITICS UK

For nearly 60 years since its fabrication on December 1, 1948, the “National Security Law” (NSL) made innumerable patriots and innocent people in south Korea a scapegoat of fascism.

So it was branded as the most evil law in history of the world law and has been bitterly criticized by the Korean people and the human conscience of the world.

Still now the NSL shackles the people of various strata demanding for independence, democracy and reunification in south Korea and is used to trample down the people's political freedom and rights.

Moreover, since the advent of the current regime, the NSL got more bloodthirsty and the suppression of the progressive organizations and personages advocating the independent reunification in alliance with the north has further intensified.

As soon as the current conservative group took power, it reinstalled the public security section No.3 in charge of dealing with the cases of NSL violation which was disbanded in 2005, within the Prosecutor-General's Office, uttering that the NSL abolition is premature, and ran hell-bent to build up the “National Intelligence Service”, the prosecution, police and other repressive organs.

Now the repression of the people by the NSL is beyond imagination in south Korea.

This year alone, the treacherous group arrested a great number of pro-reunification figures including the members of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country’s Reunification, the Solidarity for Realizing the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration and the Solidarity for Progress who legally visited the north during the former regimes’ period on charges of “spies” and “enemy-benefiting”.

In July the south Korean security authorities, in particular, forcefully searched the houses and offices of a dozen people in labor, political and academic circles absurdly accusing them as “conducting spy actions and building a secret party” by the instruction of the north and committed a fascist act of arresting 5 of them in reliance on the notorious NSL.

On November 9 they also demanded 7-year imprisonment for Lee Gyu-jae, chairman of the South Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country’s Reunification, 8-year imprisonment for Lee Gyung-sun, its former director-general and 6-year imprisonment for Choi Un-a, its former agitation chairperson, accusing that they conducted enemy-benefiting activities in touch with the north during the former regimes’ period.

On November 10, they indicted 4 leading members of the Youth and Students Solidarity for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration by the NSL with the accusation that they convened seminars on the Songun politics and academic meetings for reunification to propagate and praise the Songun politics from 2006 to 2010.

Worse still, the fascist authorities wickedly suppress the organizations and personnel that posted articles and animations praising the north on the internet by mobilizing the joint investigation team consisted of the prosecution, police and the Broadcast and Communications Commission and desperately try to block such websites with bloodshot eyes.

The current “government” which persistently sticks to the NSL to aggravate the inter-Korean relations and maintain its regime is an anti-reunification and fascist dictatorial one.

The NSL is an utterly destructive evil law in the June 15 reunification era and abolishing it is a unanimous demand of the Korean people and the world progressives and the trend of the times.

The NSL, a pronoun for fascism, murder, anti-democracy and anti-reunification, should be abolished at once.
