South Korean People's Struggle against Anti-reunification Moves

On the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of the publication of the historic October 4 declaration various pro-reunification patriotic organizations and people in south Korea are more vigorously waging the struggle to shatter the anti-north confrontational moves of the anti-reunification forces and open the gate of reunification by the concerted efforts of the nation holding high the banner of “By Our Nation Itself”.

On October 5 the Southside Headquarters of the National Alliance for the Country’s Reunification and the Struggle Headquarters of the 17th-term south Korean Federation of University Student Councils issued statements on the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of the October 4 declaration.

Noting that the historic Pyongyang summit gave the Korean nation the conviction of reunification, the statements asserted that every article of the October 4 declaration indicates the valuable ways for the national reunification.

They stressed that the October 4 declaration which called for settling the reunification problem independently in the spirit of “By Our Nation Itself” and giving importance to the dignity and interests of the nation and subordinating everything to them is the action program to implement the June 15 joint declaration and a declaration of national independence and peaceful reunification.

The statements asserted that the US imperialists and the anti-reunification forces can never overpower the united efforts of the Korean nation, emphasizing that they would more actively turn out in the struggle to terminate the domination and intervention of the outside forces and open wide the avenue of independent reunification, peace and prosperity upholding the banner of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration.

Days ago, over 40 civic organizations and the Democratic Party and the Democratic Labor Party and other opposition parties strongly urged the south Korean regime to immediately retract the decision of the full participation in the “Proliferation Security Initiative”, work out the plan for implementing the June 15 joint declaration and hold talks with the north.

Pro-reunification movement organizations including the Solidarity for Realizing the June 15 South-North Joint Declaration and the People for Peace and Reunification held the “Anti-war Peace Rally” in front of the US embassy and called on the authorities to switch over their north Korea policy for the sake of the peace on the Korean Peninsula.

And the Southside Committee to Implement the June 15 Joint Declaration called a press conference recently before the building of the “Ministry of Unification,” denouncing the unjust approach of the authorities against the section to section exchange between the north and south, demanding their policy switchover.

However desperate the US imperialists and the anti-reunification forces in south Korea run amuck, they can never stem the aspiration of the Korean people to defend and implement the inter-Korean declarations and achieve the independent reunification, peace and prosperity without fail under the idea of “By Our Nation Itself”.
